Meet Dr Jean van Lierop

After years of postgraduate training and continuous lecturing and education, I have developed a deep passion and understanding of restorative dentistry. I believe that every person deserves the right to a healthy, confident smile and I am privileged to be able to help achieve that. I achieve this by following the ethos of Slow Dentistry - making more out of less and doing things the way they should be done while enjoying the emotional bond I have with my patients. By striving for excellence, we bring more significant benefits to ourselves, to our patients, and dentistry in general.

My passion for Dentistry and people has led me to push my boundaries, achieving a Masters Degree in Restorative Dentistry and additional postgraduate training in Aesthetic Dentistry. I believe in sharing this passion and knowledge, so I took on the roles of founding member and current president of The South African Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (SAAAD) and co-founder of “The Bridge Program” - aimed at guiding newly qualified dentists and equipping them with the necessary skills for private practice.

I am fortunate enough to live my passion every day. Helping create healthy, confident smiles that change the lives of the people I get to touch.

New Beginnings

Life is full of opportunities. Over my 20 years in dentistry, I have always had the dream of creating a truly interdisciplinary dental centre. That dream is becoming reality. Together with Dr Corne Smith in Claremont we are joining forces to build a world class interdisciplinary clinic here in Cape Town. With the various dental specialities all under the same roof, it will create a unique patient experience centred on teamwork. Exciting times ahead.

Graduation

It is official!!! I have completed my Masters in Restorative Dentistry at the University of the Western Cape. The many years of hard work and hours of research has paid off. Thank you everyone that had a role to play in making this all possible. Especially Dr Desi Moodley from UWC. You were amazing.

4 Days of Interdisciplinary Treatment Training

As the President of SAAAD I have had the opportunity to spend some extra time in Johannesburg with my close friend and mentor Dr Sjoerd Smeekens of the Netherlands. During an intensive 4 days’ workshop Dr Smeekens shared his passion and vision of interdisciplinary dental treatment as only he can. What an inspiration he has become in my life.

The Bridge Program

Bridge Program 2019 is finally here. What an amazing group of youngsters both in Cape Town and in Johannesburg. It is such a privilege to share your experience and knowledge with people that are so eager to learn. It really does make me excited about the future of our profession.

Slow Dentistry

Achieving results that last often takes time. This case is a great example of just that. After more than a year, the time spent in achieving the perfect smile was absolutely worth it. What an amazing woman and now she has the amazing smile that goes with it.

Lecturing in Turkey

What a great pleasure to have been part of this amazing conference of the Turkish Dental Association. I met some great people, had a huge amount of fun and learnt a lot from the really informative program. I am just glad I also got the opportunity to share some of my tips on direct bonding.

What Patients Are Saying

I was referred to Dr Jean van Lierop a couple of months ago. I was advised that he was THE go-to-person when it came to remedial dentistry work.

I presented with a typical problem of seriously ground down/worn-away front teeth (top and bottom) as a result of dental malalignment, associated with grinding my teeth. I wanted to seek expert advice on what was possible with the least amount of invasive work, and which was ultimately financially viable. The most important aspect for me was to get advice from a professional person whom I could trust.

From our first interaction, Dr van Lierop put me at ease with his confidence, straight-forwardness and excellent interpersonal skills. He took time to explain and took photographs to illustrate the various treatment options open to me. He advised in detail what each different option plan would entail. He also gave an estimated costing model for each of the treatment options. What I really appreciated and remembered from those early days was the patience with which he guided me to arrive at the most favorable treatment option in my circumstances. He had no hesitation in revisiting the various options and made sure that I was absolutely comfortable with the option plan I eventually decided upon. He also made a mock-up set of what the eventual veneers would look like. The way in which he approached and engaged with me led me to have absolute trust in the advice he gave me.

My subsequent experience with Dr van Lierop has been equally good.

I can highly recommend Dr Van Lierop for remedial dentistry work, both for his excellent professional advice and his caring bed-side manner. It is a pleasure to have him as my dentist.
